Senior Product Developer / Director

Job Description:

Position is responsible for early-stage product research, preliminary engineering and design, and managing company product initiatives that may be 9 months to 2 years out.   Responsible for seeking out and staying abreast of current and future trends in Consumer Electronics products, both in function and design.  An innovator, original thinker, a strategist who thinks about blue ocean strategies and the products that will be on “future pegs”.  Job is “project-oriented” in scope and the initiatives will focus on future/long term product strategies.  Speed to market is essential, thus it is highly unlikely that the SPD would work on more than one or two products/initiatives at a given time.

Works closely with Engineering and Concept Artist to bring forth visions and ideas that have been conceived by any given person, including themselves; and has already been approved and “green lit” by management.  The person will work to transition the project to the Product Management group at the appropriate time, such as when the project has matured to the point where sales/marketing, production, and production packaging is required.

Candidate Requirements:

Highly motivated, inquisitive, and strategic thinker with 10+ years experience in Consumer Electronics working in new product development.    Has managed products previously from incubation to handoff and understands the dynamics of working on time sensitive projects that attempt to integrate the latest in design and innovation.

A product designer at heart; loves the CE industry and devoutly follows the industry’s latest products and trends.  Knows the competitor products – what works, what doesn’t, how we can do it better.   Looks for inspiration from various CE categories and enjoys the market research and knowledge required to make intelligent assessments on what initiatives are best pursued, and why.

Well versed in the practical business side of costs and margins and how blue sky thinking must be tempered by production and market realities.
